Macy's End Year Sale

I love Macy. You can tell from my blog post about my shopaholic experiences here and when they crowned me the first prize winner of an LCD TV for their contest here. They really should nominate me as a Macy Ambassador!

Sadly, this year, they are not going to have their annual warehouse clearance sale. (What a pity, the year when I needed this the most, they decided to not have one, sheeeeeshhhhh!) This year, they are only having an End Year Sale.

So, that fateful Friday, my partner-in-crime-in-shopping, Miss Nick Nacks and I gobbled our lunch quickly and we drove to the biggest Macy outlet we could find - Minlon, Seri Kembangan. The plan was to quickly shop and return to the office by the end of our lunch hour (yeah right!!!)

When we arrived, we were shocked to see that their parking lots were absolutely full! Damn, the morning crowd must have beaten us to the good stuff. So I quickly reversed my car into the only available parking spot - a teeny weeny small space right between two 4WDs. And this was what happened:

I bumped into the 4WD and dented poor Baby Beemer. The 4WD wasn't even hurt!

Here's another angle. This is my very first accident since I started driving Baby Beemer. Aaarrrggghhh...

Due to the extreme stress, I munched on free popcorn all day long.


The first thing we pounced upon when we walked in, was the fabric. Can you actually believe that they were selling their fabrics for RM1 per meter???

Fabrics for curtains and sofa upholstery strewn all over the floor. Apparently these fabrics have already been in their stock for at least 8 years or more so they wanted to let them go.

But did I really looked like I cared?? At the rate our spending is going with the new aircon, tv panel, bed panel and platform, kitchen cabinets (and the list goes on), I felt that this ultra cheap fabric could come in handy in the future. So I hunted for a reasonably looking fabric and bought the WHOLE ROLL - 38 meters in total! Where could you ever get 38 meters of fabric for RM38?

70% off for all house decorations.

30% off for carpets. I fell in love with this carpet but at RM1K plus (before discount), Hubby said it was more than a want rather than a need.

Table runners, bedsheets, curtain hooks - all at 70% to 75% off.

So, if you're looking for something on sale to add on to your house, run to the nearest Macy today. If you're looking for an RM1 fabric, don't bother running or even walking. Because by the next day, they had ran out of fabrics.

Yesterday!

Yesterday. Very hectic day! This time around Hubby is home for the weekend and we had to cover so many things in a day! Gosh - I miss those laid back weekends where Hubby, Aiden and I would wake up late, go window shopping, have a relaxing lunch and lie around doing nothing at home. Nowadays, it is all about the new house and catching up on things Hubby missed out while he's in Singapore.

So yesterday, we started off the day bright and early in Cahaya SPK. This time not for our house per say, but more for the community. At 10am we had a face to face meeting between the Resident Association and the Cahaya SPK management. Since Hubby is almost always in Singapore, I had taken over his job as Precinct 3's RA nomminee, hence the mandatory show up. We discussed about anything and everything. From the guards watering our plants (as they have no built-in toilets near their guard post) to the road antics of people staying around the Puncak Perdana area. We covered everything!

After the meeting, we rushed to a wedding in Janda Baik (yes... Janda Baik!!!). The groom is hubby's friend who also incidentally has a resort in Janda Baik. The last time I was there (for a BBQ), I was still preggers with Aiden in my tummy!! The food was good, and it was my first meal with nasi since the beginning of the week (diet alert!) so I ate with such gusto that it became quite embarrassing!! (But sorry, no pictures!)

Then off to Macy for a new mattress. I had actually paid a visit to Macy with my sister the day before to survey their latest promotion. Unfortunately, the promotion won't let me purchase a King size mattress with a Queen size bed frame. Which didn't fit my needs! However, I refused to back down. I messaged the official Macy's Facebook site and enquired officially. I mean - its not that it is a loss for Macy right? I'm asking for a Queen bed, instead of King. Macy actually makes a profit! And guess, what? They said Yes!

Imagine my surprise when Hubby and I arrived, and were told that they could not fulfill our request! Thank god I had proof of their reply, and of course they had to honour it. Unfortunately, someone from Marketing is sooo going to get it from the Macy's director! (Sorry, sorry whoever you are....)

So... now the new house has complete beds and mattresses for all its rooms! Yeay!!! And the best part - the bed frame was only RM10 and a free holiday to either Bali or Phuket!!! Also, my Enrich & Krisflyer points are sufficient to redeem return flights for both of us. Yeay, free holiday!

Then, next stop. Tykoh Inagiku. This time, it was on Hubby's request. Yes, this is the 3rd time this month. And I think i'll spare you from pictures of nyummy-licious prawns and fried rice. If you don't know what I am talking about, you sooo haven't khatam my blog.

Aiden: "Daddy look (points) - Mummy is ignoring me. Her prawns are yummier than me!"

Aiden: "Oh, hello Daddy's yummy-licious zoom lense!"

Aiden gets Bubur Ayam McD (his first try!) while Mummy maintain ayu in her Baju Kurung.

We conquered the whole strip of Teppanyaki seats. Over gila!

Okay. I lied. I couldn't help snapping pictures of the prawns with the D40 (previous visits were taken with the iPhone camera only).

Poor Hubby. This time around, our favorite chef was on leave. So another chef took over his place. And this chef was unfamilliar with how our chef cooks our favorite dishes. Not only that, he didn't know the price scheme our favorite chef charges everytime we dine!

To top the disappointment, the huge prawns that they usually serve were out of stock. So they gave us two medium/small sized prawns instead. Poor hubby.

This chef didn't make fried rice the way the other one did. *sob*sob*. Fortunately, hubby likes this version better. (I didn't!)

Instead of putting vegetable and prawns in his fried rice, he only gave us eggs and garlic!

Imagine my surprise when I got the bill! I had initially explained to the chef that our favorite chef usually charges us ~RM50 for a 2 course main dish or ~RM75 for a 3 course main dish. What I meant was per person! But because he was soooo unfamilliar with us, (maybe) he thought price for two! Sorry Tykoh Inagiku - it wasn't his fault!

Back home, Aiden dressed in his pyjamas, started exploring the house.

And the day did not end for us just yet. Off we went to Tesco for groceries. Meanwhile, Aiden stayed at home with Bibik. On the way there, I tried looking for ABC flash card applications on iPhone. Unfortunately, I found nothing suitable for a 10 month old baby. But at Tesco, I found an ABC book for babies!

It started off quite strong.

Then we got to E and thought, hmmm... good to start him early since his parents are both engineers!

Then we got to G & H, and thought, gosh - kids nowadays are exposed to such complicated words!

And we got to Q and started laughing our heads off.

Finally, we arrived at U. Then we decided that we simply had to get the book for our very own entertainment!

Hectic day, eh?

OMG, I soooo love Macy. You can see my apparent love for Macy from my dedicated post in my blog about my haul in their latest warehouse clearance sale.

Well now I love them even more. After enjoying the great bargains and free delivery, they just called me to tell me that I am the Grand Prize winner for their "Write A Review to win an LG 32" LCD TV" contest.

Now, how grand is that????

Absolutely worth it, spend a few hours writing about something I like most - Shopping! And in return I get a TV? Now, even the saman I received from going through a no entry sign driving home from the Macy's Warehouse Sale feels like peanuts compared to this. The telephone conversation between me and the Macy's guy who broke the news to me sounded something like this:

Me: Yes?

Macy: Is this Liz?

Me: Yup.

Macy: My name is (something inaudible).

Me: And you are calling from?? (dgn suara pissed off because I absolutely detest telemarketers)

Macy: Macy

Me: What?

Macy: Macy!

Me: Oookkaayyy...???

Macy: Do you know why I am calling you?

Me: I hope I know why you are calling me!

Macy: Why do you think I am calling you?

Me: Because I won a prize?

Macy: Yup, you won a prize. But do you know what prize?

Me: I hope its the LCD TV!

Macy: Yup, you are our grand prize winner for the LCD TV. Our boss loved your writing.

Me: You're not kidding?

Macy: Nope! We had about 50 entries, shortlisted it to 20 and you won.

Me: OMG you just made my day, man!!! (and more words with a lot of exclamation marks behind it)

So there you have it. I won. My unlucky streak has ended. Gone are the days where I am unable to win even the simplest contests and lucky draws. *very happy*

Anyway, they're posting the winning entries on Facebook by this afternoon, but enjoy reading my review here, while I twiddle my thumbs patiently for Tuesday to come so I can pick up my brand new LCD TV!

I was hoping for a pleasant day for the start of the Macy’s warehouse sale, and God answered my prayers in abundance. It started off bright and sunny. As I walked from my car to the block of lots Macy’s had converted into their sales area, I was greeted by the security guard trafficking cars into the nearly congested Minlon Industrial Park. Judging from his mood, I could gauge that he was in high spirits, meaning that he isn’t yet stressed out by the number of cars inching bumper to bumper, hoping to get a parking spot close to the sale galore. After wishing him well, I could hear the deejay cheering the energetic bargain hunters, so I walked quickly towards the sale. After all, a few seconds could make a lot of difference between getting that great bargain or letting someone else haul the loot!

Stepping foot at the sale, I stood mesmerized at the scene and took it all in. I felt like a kid in a candy store! Colorful banners with the words “SALE” and “DISCOUNT” practically shouted at me, and a bevy of Macy’s salespeople clad in red were busy processing sales from the lucky few who had arrived earlier than me.

And the sale stood true to its claim, as being a sale not to be missed. Everything was going at unbelievable prices. I passed the first few halls and went straight to the Furniture hall. It was the fastest transaction I had ever made in my whole life. I purchased a sofa bed for RM399, mattress for RM570, throw pillows for RM20 each, bar stools for RM175 each and a variety of table lamps and stand lamps, each within RM50 – RM110 each! In any other sale, it would have been ten times more expensive than this! I even saved on delivery costs, as I was one of the first 50 who RSVPed for the event through Facebook, qualifying me for a free delivery!

Unfortunately, I missed out on a pair of fine-looking solid wood bookcases, which were snapped up by a lucky patron for only RM145 each. I looked wistfully, as the Macy packers started wrapping up the beauties – thinking that I should arrive earlier for next year’s sale!

Out of all the halls, the Home Accessories hall was the most jam-packed. At lunch, they even had to cordon off the area to reduce the number of people scrambling to get those oh-so-cheap curtains, vases and adorable trinkets for the house. I didn’t want to miss out, so I dived in, and managed to grab a few beautiful odd sized curtains. Even though they were odd sized – the fabric and the stitching quality made it all worth it. And they were going for only RM45 a pair! At the far end of the hall, they were selling glass vases at 70% off, so I purchased a modern looking slanted vase for only RM27. Funny that the artificial orchids were actually more expensive than the vase – three stalks for RM50!

In the afternoon, at the Sofa hall, the sofa auction kicked off. I had earlier purchased a sofa bed, and wasn’t planning on purchasing any more. Like any other avid shoppers, I wanted to witness the event. However, when they introduced a stunning deep red maroon 2-seater sofa, auctioned off from its original price of RM2300 to RM500, my sudden reflex at the shock of the sale, made my hand shoot up! After a bit of a bid war with some of the other sporting patrons, the sofa was finally made mine. I ran my hand over the velvet structure of the sofa, admiring my purchase. Suddenly, I realized in a start, that unconsciously I was grinning from ear to ear!

2 hours shy from the closing time it started raining cats and dogs. God must have concluded that enough was enough - all of us have single-handedly revived the Malaysian economy! But rain did not deter the ardent shoppers (including myself) from buying. Thankfully, I had just made my third trip to the car to transfer my loot. This fourth round, I was targeting for some bed sheets and pillows, to go with my new mattress. Who would even expect that those comfy bed pillows would be sold at as low as RM23 a piece? I paid for my purchase and lugged 8 pieces of those pillows back to the car. My gym trainer would be so proud of me. I am weight training without even being told to do so!

I even started shopping for my son’s first birthday (though he only turned 7 months the day before). I grabbed more than 10 packs of colourful Happy Birthday printed paper plates, going for a ridiculous price of RM3 each. And lots of Happy Birthday balloons. Macy’s just made my baby’s day!

Half an hour before the close of the great Macy’s sale, the last of the shoppers gradually started to head for home. Despite their light wallets, most of them had a car-full of purchases to show for. I walked towards my car, satisfied with my bargains. By then, nearly half of the Macy’s staff knew me by name and bade me goodbye.

I am now hooked. I am forever a Macy’s fan.

Macy's Clearance Warehouse Sale

It is close to 2am, and I am still up, uploading pictures and typing this - the story about how I (nearly) wiped out the shelves at Macy.

Apologies beforehand, this post is short and snappy. Cos I need to sleep ASAP to regain my energy for another day (read: third day in a row) at the Macy's Warehouse Sale.

Noris and I had planned to take the day off on Thursday to shop. So on Thursday morning, we met at the Palace of the Golden Horses, and drove to the sale. We nearly got lost, but thankfully there were clear signages once near Balakong. We arrived just minutes after 10am (opening time), and immediately went to look for sofas. Not a full seater sofa or anything since I am planning to angkut my existing sofa to the new house. I was just aiming for a sofa bed for the living hall upstairs. Untuk golek golek sambil tengok TV...

We also managed to be among the first 50 to RSVP to the sale, thus entitled for free delivery for anything we purchase. Can you see my name?

Second stop, mattresses! Purchased an extra queen size bed for the guest bedroom in the new house.

My bar stools for my breakfast bar. The fabric is velvet. Due to the fact that they only had two of these, I had to sit on these chairs to book them, while they wrote the sales order! This was going at RM145 each.

Aiden's study chair table. Noris laughed when I told her this. I know Aiden is only 7 months old, but I should be well prepared right??? This was going at RM99. A bit pricey, but I like the unique modern design. Ah tutup sebelah mata, and bayar!

No more pictures of the sale. Why? Because my hands were full. There were so many people. We had to make three trips to the car to offload stuff. I did not have breakfast. There was only laksa for lunch. I was thirsty, hot and tired. There were only fans to provide air circulation in the halls. It was raining cats and dogs at one point. Get the drift?

A few disappointments as well. I failed to secure two beautiful solid wood bookcases, selling at RM175 each. It was definitely a steal! The other disappointment was when I tertinggal a queen size bedsheet set which I had paid for. Aarrgghh!!!

But overall I was happy with all my purchases and savings. I bought 3 pairs of night curtains at RM45 per pair. 2 pairs of day curtains also at RM45 per pair. These curtains are odd sized curtains, and we didn't have the time to measure. Like most of the other patrons, we adopted the just-grab-and-hope-it-fits mindset.

I also purchased a whole lot of other knick knacks. Bear with me, i'll explain in greater detail further down this entry. If you can't wait, just scroll down........

First up, I decided to try the maroon curtains. Fabric is velvet. Really thick. Looks expensive. Length was just right. Unfortunately, width did not fit.

Next up, the beige curtains. Length was perfect. Unfortunately same case as the maroon ones, insufficient width. I was nearly screaming in frustration at this point. Told Bibik to take it down and tried to adjust the gap between each curtain hook to make it longer.

Finally, we MADE the curtain fit. Yes, I know. The gap between the curtain hooks are massive. Oh well, not so noticeable right? Right?

I slept well that night. Very satisfied.

Second day.

A part of me wanted to go to the sale again. I was frustrated at the fact that I only managed to purchase one side table lamp. I wanted another!

And I wanted to look for more curtains. Another curtain (black) I purchased was missing one panel! I also wanted to see whether they had any more bookcases to sell.

So off I went during lunch. Okay tipu. I left the office a bitttttt earlier than lunch.

The crowd wasn't as bad as the day before. Maybe because it was slightly raining. As I was rummaging through the mountain of curtains, suddenly they announced that they were having an auction for sofas. Part of me was reluctant to leave the unpaid curtains I had set aside. But a part of me was curious to witness the auction.

So off to the auction. The first item they auctioned was a two seater black sofa, going at RM500. No one even tried to bid for it. Kesian Macy.

Second item was a 2 1/2 seater maroon sofa, also going at RM500. I didn't know why, but my hand shot up to bid for it!!! Padahal I had already purchased the sofa bed the day before!

I was the only person who placed a bid. So duhhh... I got it for RM500! Needless to say, I was the catalyst for the auction. People started to become more confident, and subsequent sofas were auctioned in a flash! I even had a few people approach me to pujuk me to sell my sofa to them.

And I bought it at only RM500!!!

The best part was that I was able to get a refund for the sofa bed I purchased earlier. So all I needed to do was top up the diference! I was so happy that I cancelled the idea of buying more curtains. The leftover curtains weren't that great anyway!

Back home, tried the maroon curtains in the master bedroom. Again, I had to MAKE it fit. But all worth it!

P.S: I purchased a lot of small knick knacks which is not reflected in here. And they are really cheap. My advise, go before its too late!!!
