KitchenAid Raspberry Ice Mixer

Happy 29th birthday to me!

Yes, I know I am turning 31 soon, but this present was extremely belated. I finally received this 29th birthday present just a few months shy of my 30th birthday. And trust me, this time it wasn't Hubby's fault.

After pondering for so long on what I wanted for my birthday (it was a toss up between a Tiffany & Co. charm bracelet, or the KitchenAid mixer), I finally made up my mind a month before my birthday. Hubby gave me the green light (and cash!) and I immediately placed the order for an Empire Red KitchenAid mixer. Unfortunately, the shipment of the mixer from the US got delayed so many times and then got stuck in customs and finally - after so many months of waiting, I received the notification that the mixer was here. Unfortunately again, as I wasn't the only one who ordered a KitchenAid mixer in the same shipment, by the time it got here we found out that some of the mixers were stolen. And just my luck, my beautiful Empire Red mixer was one of the ones stolen *sigh*

I was already dreaming of a complete Empire Red KitchenAid range in my kitchen... *double sigh*
Anyway, I was told to wait for the next shipment for my replacement mixer which would arrive erm... eons months later. Heh, no way was I going to celebrate my 30th birthday before receiving my 29th birthday present, so I demanded that they show me all the mixers that have not been picked up. Initially they were reluctant, but finally they showed me one in Green Apple and another in Raspberry Ice. Since I am an absolute sucker for the colour pink, combine that with the glass bowl, I fell in love with the Raspberry Ice (the fuschia pink was practically screaming "pick me, pick me!" and before they changed their minds, I carried it to my car. Thank god I went with 2 friends as it was an extremely heavy box!

Safe and sound in my car.

As usual, Aiden gets excited over anything new in the house!

Safe and sound in my kitchen.
Notice the glass bowl?

I knew that the Raspberry Ice with glass bowl model was a special edition version, but I never knew that it was dedicated to the Susan G. Komen effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Cook for the Cure gives people with a passion for cooking a way to support a meaningful cause. According to the website, the partnership has raised more than $9 million over the past decade.

Fresh out of the box.

Thank you Hubby!

Now where do I put this in my kitchen??
Just after I unpacked and marveled at the new beauty in my kitchen, I received some bad news. Apparently the Raspberry Ice mixer has another owner and I was to return it immediately, or since the mixer is a special edition version - pay the difference in price. After consulting a fellow neighbour (who noted my bad mood!) and then tossing and turning in bed that whole night, Hubby and I finally decided we would just pay for the difference, rather than waiting for a new shipment for my original Empire Red mixer.

KitchenAid Raspberry Ice's maiden spin, to make meringue for pavlova. And the best part, it didn't sink!!!
So, did I make the right choice? To be perfectly honest, I am torn. Although I love my Raspberry Ice mixer to bits, I found out the hard way that there was only two other kitchen appliances in the same colour, which is a blender and a toaster - both sold out everywhere as KitchenAid only made limited productions of this special edition colour. Unless I wanted to match it with Pink:

KitchenAid Pink range.

The KitchenAid Raspberry Ice collection.
Unfortunately, the pastel pink colour never appealed to me and therefore the rebellious me decided to just combine the fushia pink Raspberry Ice with the conventional red of Empire Red and make it somehow work in my kitchen. So my next KitchenAid purchase was an Empire Red 3.5 cup food chopper. Perfect for chopping or pureeing with precision, or in my case - perfect for chopping a lot of onions all at one time, or even for making sambal belacan!

So this is how it currently looks in my kitchen. Carca marba! Can you spot Aiden's picture wearing a chef hat?
More purchases of the KitchenAid kitchenware range. Oh my god, when will this craze stop!!

  5. Hi Liz, I'm interested to get a kitchenaid stand mixer and i noticed that prices in US are way cheaper compared to the retail price in Malaysia. I would like to find out if there are any taxes involved when your mixer was shipped to Malaysia and how much did the shipping cost. Thank you!

  6. Hi Christine, I bought this Kitchenaid through FB from a Malaysian lady who lives in US. She arranged for all the shipment and subsequent taxes. However, a neighbour of mine bought hers from Amazon and they shipped it all the way to Malaysia, no taxes incurred. Good luck!

  7. Hi Liz, do you need a step down transformer? Where you buy it?

  8. Yes, you need a step down transformer but you can buy this at any hardware shop in Malaysia. I think Ace Hardware has it.

    1. Hi Vickie - can you email me with your query please? Thanks. A step down transformer is used to decrease the voltage. Since the KitchenAid was purchased in US (110V), it is not suitable for use with Malaysia voltage (240V), hence it needs a step down transformer.

  11. Hi,

can anyone advise me with the step down transformer? i recently purchase a KA from US and i purchase a 350W transformer from singapore homefix store. When i turn on the machine, it seems like the power is v strong that the machine is moving backward bit by bit. Also the motor seems to be v hot after turning on for say 10 min. is this normal? or there is some issue with the transformer?

    1. Hi Angela, sorry I haven't had any problems like what you described, with mine. The motor shouldn't be hot too, especially after only 10 minutes. Suggest you contact Kitchenaid for their advise. Sorry can't be of much help!

  12. Hi Angela. I have the very same problem with my new KA mixer which i just bought from US. Got a 500W transformer from Ace hardware. Even on "stir" or "speed 1", my flour splatters everywhere even with the shield guard in place. Mixer turns hot after 5-10mins too. Have you managed to get your problem resolved? If yes could you share? Am wondering if the Watts for my transformer is too high. Any idea people? Feeling sad that it is not how i expected it to perform, especially that I finally own a KA eyeing it for a long time 😦

    1. Oh Jacqueline, so sorry to hear about this. Your Kitchenaid really shouldn't be acting like that. "Stir" or "Speed 1" is actually very very slow on my machine. Have you tried contacting Kitchenaid for their advise?
